The Ocean Cleanup – Full Circle – Turning trash into treasure
On 24th October The Ocean Cleanup launched the first product made with plastic certified from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch: The Ocean Cleanup sunglasses. Boyan Slat presented how they can go full circle in their mission by creating a product with the plastic catch to fund the continuation of the cleanup.
An important element of their mission has always been what they will do with the trash they remove from the ocean. Boyan shared how we can use the recovered plastic to help fund the Ocean Cleanup’s mission and what they were able to make with it using the catch from treur System 001/B campaign in 2019. A timeless pair of sunglasses as their first product because they are durable, useful, and they hope that by making something that is often carried around, they can also help create awareness.
Dutch Matters produced this event in close cooperation with BIND and JUR at the Fokker Terminal in The Hague.
