The swampy bog land between the polders and the IJ is called Waterland. Holland’s best known features for tourists are found on the edge of Waterland at the IJsselmeer like pearls on a necklace there is Edam, Volendam and Monnickendam and finally on the other side of the Gouwzee, Marken, a former island.
